Taking Up Golf

I decided to start learning golf. My brother had been teaching me the swing lately, so I decided to try it out at the course this morning. After just one hit (which sadly sent the golf ball gently bouncing down the hill I was standing on) rain started pouring hard and fast. I’d say within 10 seconds we were completely soaked. A sign that I’m not cut out for golf? A lesson to teach me to watch the Weather Channel? Hopefully just the latter.

Any golfers out there?

The only purpose for golf is to drink and drive the little cart around while getting sunburnt. Other than that, people take it way too seriously.

Getting the ball in the hole is also one of the purposes. :) It’s just another sport, one that requires a little more focus and precision. That’s what interests me.

It can be fun, though a lot of people really take it way too seriously. If you’re playing pool and someone accidentally pops the cue ball off the table and sends it rolling across the room, someone will pick it up and bring it right to you. If you hit your ball onto another fairway on accident, you’re likely to get an iron wrapped around your neck.

Where have you played? It seems that golf is always portrayed as such a calm sport. Either way that’s kind of a generalization.

Considering the length that some people can hit a golf ball, I probably wouldn’t pick it up and take it to them, but an extra ball in my fairway wouldn’t bother me too much.

And I’m sure there are some pool-playing golfers who take their sportsmanship with them to the green.

I’m not a serious golfer by any means, so yes of course its a generalization. The game is fun, but some people can suck the fun out of anything.

    Agreed.
