Cost of Logos These Days?
I don’t usually do this, but Jacob Cass over at Just Creative Design wrote an excellent article on the continually dropping cost of logo design worth mentioning. You can read it below:
Why Logo Design Does Not Cost $5.00
I’ve been meaning to write about this, but Jacob hit all the points I would’ve made spot-on. This new perception of a logo’s worth is really a concerning issue. Every day there are more designers committing their time to low-paying contests where there is not even a guarantee of winning. I mean, this seems to be the only starting point for a designer building up a portfolio, but the payouts are just becoming ridiculous. And I have to say that a lot of the submitted designs hardly fit the bill.
In this article, Jacob goes in depth on how the logo process should be and provides reasons why your identity should cost more than a few bucks.
Thanks Alec for the post, I would have been interested to see your version.
I’m sure I’ll write something later on. This trend in design doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.
Thanks for the comment, Jacob.
Alec,
What makes you think that bad or cheap design is a trend? Bad design has existed long, long before the internet design contest.
I’ve spent some time at Digital Point and it seems that the prices have just gotten lower and lower.
I’m not necessarily saying that this issue is new, but it has definitely become more common lately.
